All-Party Group, members have discussed many times the challenge posed by a number of countries in the MENA and Asian regions in terms of their use of the death penalty. In many of these countries the perceived role of Sharia law in shaping national approaches to the death penalty is a significant one. The relationship between Sharia law and the death penalty is complex and contested. As a contribution to understanding the issue Penal Reform International (PRI)  published the report - Sharia law and the death penalty - Would abolition of the death penalty be unfaithful to the message of Islam?  The report, written by Cambridge University scholar, Michael Mumisa was presented to members of the Group and other colleagues in the House of Lords.
